Comment:

 Unless I misread their site gmx.com is an email provider. email is not
 XMPP/jabber and pidgin is not an email client. As such you cannot use
 pidgin with gmx.com. If I'm incorrect and gmx.com does have an XMPP server
 then you will be able to use pidgin with it by adding an XMPP account to
 pidgin.
