Comment (by jkronika):
Replying to [ticket:6489 jkronika]:
> When Pidgin loaded in '''Fedora Core 7''', I got a `segfault` error.
Running from a terminal displays this log (from startup to shutdown,
omitting generic "please report to developers" bit):
> {{{
> libnm_glib_nm_state_cb: dbus returned an error.
> (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown) The name
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files
> Pidgin 2.4.1-1.fc7 has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file.
> This is a bug in the software and has happened through
> no fault of your own.
> }}}
> I believe this may also be an issue with the application in Windows, as
I've had difficulties with it behaving in the same manner under
'''WinXP''' (though I have been unable to perform a log trace as I did in
Linux). I have installed, in both Linux and Windows, extensions to provide
'''Facebook''' and '''MyspaceIM''' capability. These may be the
originators of the segfault issue, but I haven't had the opportunity to
test. It is an unpredictable issue, and the app can run perfectly for
several days or die repeatedly within a few minutes. Not sure how to
reliably reproduce.

> Note: I recognize that this is not listed as the most recent release, as
I have '''2.4.1''' on Linux and will see about upgrading to 2.4.3.
However, I believe I am running the most recent version in WinXP where it
is also failing. If upgrading fixes this in Linux, I will amend the
ticket.
Since removing the Facebook plugin from this, I have not had any other
issues. I decided to remove it after noticing extreme slowness on my
machine when the plugin was installed and my Facebook account was enabled.
I'm not sure which of these I installed originally (or which version it
might have been):
* [http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/]
* [http://www.neaveru.com/wordpress/index.php/pidgin-facebook-plugin/]
When I'm able to, I'll add that piece of info to the thread. I think the
Google code version is a better one anyway, as it works directly with the
built-in Facebook IM chat, rather than creating an all new thing. It may
be that the two crossing paths is what makes the Neaveru plugin more
buggy, if it was that one that I had installed. As I said, I'll post when
I know for sure...
