#6595: Loss of defined accounts after upgrade from v2.2.0 to v2.4.3

Reporter: DLinPle | Type: defect
Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.4.3 | Keywords: duplicate accounts
--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------
I want to report a loss of functionality in Pidgin v2.4.3 that I found
after upgrading from v2.2.0. After upgrading to v2.4.3, Pidgin no longer
allows me to have 2 accounts for the same IM account.

In Pidgin 2.2.0 I had 2 accounts set up for the same IM account (on
gmail). One used an HTTP proxy and the other used no proxy. When
connected to my company's VPN, I have to use the HTTP proxy to access the
internet. When I disconnect the VPN I can't see the corporate proxy
server and, therefore, must use no proxy. Depending on whether I was
connected using VPN or not, one or the other of the Pidgin accounts was
working and the other had no connectivity.

After upgrading to v2.4.3, I can no longer have my 2 Pidgin accounts that
differ in their proxy settings. Now I have to manually fiddle with the
Pidgin account's proxy settings whenever I connect/disconnect the
corporate VPN. This is wayyyyy too much work. The 2 accounts method was
a set it and forget it operation.

Note that I cannot use Pidgin's Use Global Proxy setting to manage this.
My global proxy setting (as set in Internet Explorer) uses an automatic
configuration script (wpad.dat) file. In testing I find that Pidgin, like
many internet utilities, doesn't understand wpad.dat files and simply
looks at the proxy server name which, on my machine, is always empty.

I use the Windows version of Pidgin on my Windows XP SP3 workstation.
