Comment:

 The tab colors are always enabled, the infopane however does not show
 colors. With top-tabs and only a single conversation window displayed the
 tab will not be shown and only the infopane will be visible, this will
 therefore mean that you do not see any of the colors you are talking
 about. Is that the issue you are seeing?
