Comment:

 This isn't anything that pidgin is doing, you'll see the same behavior if
 you type "http://www.pidgin.im" in Start->Run.

 The issue is that there are several different ways that the browser gets
 registered - change your default browser to IE and back to FF and it
 should be fixed.
