 The vcard error should in no way prevent you from logging in, I get the
 vcard error here and log in just fine. Something else must be going on.
 Please paste/attach the entire xml traffic for your account connecting (or
 failing to connect) here please. But before you do that remove the base64
 encoded data in the <auth> stanza as it contains your password (and as
 such you may want to change your password as it was in your original debug
 output I have since removed it).

 Also, the last debug log snippet you pasted shows pidgin attempting to get
 the vcard of someone on your gmail account so it would appear that you are
 in fact connected. What makes you think you aren't?
