 I have the same problem,
 Vista x64 SP1, pidgin 2.5.0 , language german.
 i found a workaround for me:
 if i set "use http" for the msn server i still get the error message but
 connecting succeeds,
 if "use http" is not set, error message appears and connecting to msn does
 not succeed
