New description:

Pidgin 2.5.0 consistently crashes when I try to view the tooltip of an AIM
contact (by holding the mouse over his name for a moment).

It seems to do with with particular contacts, not every AIM contact. I
can only get it to happen with one person (but I cannot rule out more at
this time). The contact in question has a screen name that is not unusual
at all and is a pidgin user.

I am attaching the crash log, which makes it look like the crash results
from some string manipulation done in the AIM protocol plug-in. (Null
 pointer being passed to strlen?)

Thanks for looking at this! Let me know if I can provide any additional
 info.
