Comment:

 I can correctly see buddy icons for people on gmail and the pidgin.im XMPP
 server. Are the people with whom you are having this problem newly added
 buddies or buddies for whom you previously saw icons?

 Can you get the Debug Window output of the XML traffic that occurs when
 you right-click an XMPP buddy and hit Get Info, sanitize it however much
 you need to, and then paste or attach the log here?
