 Pidgin message history is the only application window I ever saw with a
 scrollbar when you don't have anything to scroll. It takes space, produces
 clutter, and confuses people.
 Application windows where there is no scrollbar with an empty window or
 the content not bigger than the window itself:

 Firefox: check

 Pidgin Buddy List: check

 All Gnome applications and preference windows: check

 I don't know what the reason is, but it is such a bad design. In order to
 keep the design as clean as possible, what you guys are doing good by
 disable custom entry height, (placing all things with direct affecting the
 messages under the conversation history and the remaining things in
 menus), I highly encourage you to do this.
