 I started up pidgin, and got the usual "Could not add Buddy 1" error
 message, but after I closed out of it, all indications of pidgin running
 disappeared from my desktop. running tasklist showed that it was still
 running and consuming 25MB of RAM, but there was no tray icon, and no
 window. trying to use "Bring to Front" in Process Explorer got me an error
 about Pidgin not having any visible windows.
