 I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. And for some reason I can't get
 Pidgin to write the debug log to a file.
 Right now I'm running it as:
 C:\Programmi\Pidgin\pidgin.exe -d > C:\Programmi\Pidgin\debug.log

 But it doesn't write a debug.log file :-P
