 I can tell you that it is for sure.  Things worked perfectly pre 1.5.0, so
 it must be to do with the MSNP15 stuff?

 I placed them in the LCS group, ages ago.  Upon attempting to move them to
 another group, it fails with pretty much the same errors, because it
 merely tries another user addition to the new group.

 No other references that I can see.

 I just signed on using Live Messenger and the contacts came up fine, and I
 could have a conversation with a user.

 As another test, I loaded OCS, and although my MSN contact showed as
 offline, I could send it (in Pidgin) a message just fine.  Same for the
 other direction.
