 Responded prematurely...I just downloaded 2.5.0 and the bolding now works,
 but the balloon icon still does not appear next to the person's name. From
 the original description,

 1) The systray icon would blink

 2) A balloon icon would appear on the menu bar at the top of Pidgin.

 3) The user's name in the list would bold

 4) that same balloon icon would appear next to their name

 Items 1-3 work, item 4 does not.
