Comment:

 We don't supply a version of pidgin that will Just Work for you, you will
 either need to wait for Asus to build and supply a newer version of pidgin
 in their official repositories (so that it will show up in your software
 update tool) or you will need to use some third-party repositories that
 may or may not work on the distribution of linux they have on your Asus,
 or you will need to set up a build environment on the Asus and build
 pidgin yourself (something that was not officially support or even
 possible the last time I checked).
