 Are you sure its not Pidgin/libpurple problem?

 I am able to connect using gyachi (another Linux based Yahoo messenger
 client)
 I am able to connect using http://web.im (Yahoo's own web based messenger)
 I am able to connect using http://mail.yahoo.com (Yahoo mail with
 integrated chat)

 Guy above mentioned he is able to connect using Yahoo messenger (may be he
 meant official client too)

 The redbox on http://messenger.yahoo.com DOES NOT state that you wont be
 able to login, it just means that some functions wont work.

 On the other end, http://www.meebo.com is not connected as its using
 libpurple.

 This could be only time where Pidgin developers can check why Pidgin is
 stuck. What it is missing to check.

 May be this ticket needs to be reopened.
