Comment:

 Thanks, upgrading to 2.5.2 and disabling OTR helped, whatever the second
 sequence has been. Disabling "automatically begin OTR conversations" also
 helps; the combination of automatic OTR + IRC might still be broken. I
 still have to verify this.
