 I think a ref-count system would be more suitable here. fqueze: Could you
 please see if http://pidgin.im/~sadrul/pp/7604_alternate.patch fixes your
 problem?

 (I haven't had a chance to test it yet. It looks like testing it is going
 to be somewhat time-consuming, but assuming you have the necessary code to
 reproduce the bug, I am hoping it would be easier for you to test)
