Comment:

 We've talked about including the Facebook plugin from
 http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/ with libpurple but have
 decided against it for the time being (see the discussion on the
 devel at pidgin.im email list in the month of November).

 And I have a feeling many of us are against  having an IMAP mail plugin in
 Pidgin.  The main reason is that we're an IM client, which doesn't have a
 lot to do with IMAP mail.  A third-party could certainly write such a
 plugin, but it's not something we would want to include with
 Pidgin/Finch/libpurple.  And so it doesn't make sense to track this as a
 feature request here.
