Comment:

 Some (many/most?) protocols do not notify the IM clients when the user
 reads their email, only about new mail. Therefore it is impossible, on
 those protocols, for pidgin to know that the user has read the email
 unless they click the pidgin notification. I know Google Talk works like
 this, I'm unsure about the others.
