 I think the script being before the doctype might be causing firefox to
 fall back into quirks mode rather than standards mode. Which is almost
 certainly not a good thing.

 I'm also not at all sure that it is actually valid for a script tag to be
 placed there, Google's documentation suggestions notwithstanding. I
 understand why they might want (and possibly even need) it there but that
 doesn't mean we need to like it or plan to keep anything there.
