New description:

 Something is wrong with the IRC component since update 2.5.2
 After trying to connect to the IRC server, pidgin gives up, saying

 ########## update

 Removing the inherited charcode did the trick (it was ucs-be2 before).
 However these were the settings that worked before in versions 5.21 and
 previous.
