Comment:

 I actually just wanted the debug log, but if you've established it is
 firewall related, then there isn't any need.

 As I mentioned above, you can specify the port range to be used by using
 the preferences.

 The behavior is to allow the OS to specify the port if that isn't used,
 which I think is perfectly reasonable.

 If you have a firewall set up, you'll need to make sure that you specify
 an appropriate port range in your network preferences.
