#7894: Overflowing URL makes client not respond
------------------------+---------------------------------------------------
Reporter: Jesdisciple | Type: defect
Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.5.2 | Keywords: long, URL, overflow, overflowing
------------------------+---------------------------------------------------
 Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex"

When I enter a URL longer than the minimum length required to overflow the
message field, my mouse-cursor begins to flash and the program ceases to
respond. I click the X, which brings up a "not responding" dialog; I
select Force Quit and both the conversation and the client close.

The URL with which I discovered this is
 [http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Nzk4MTIzNjg2YzZjNThlYzk2YmE5ZjA1YjRlNTc4YmM=].
Leading/trailing text is irrelevant; only the length of the URL itself
matters. Variations on the above case which result in the same result
(sometimes without the flashing cursor) include:

 * I paste the full URL into an unmaximized conversation of the normal
 size.

 * I paste
 http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Nzk4MTIzNjg2YzZjNThlYzk2YmE5ZjA1YjRlNT
into a normal-sized conversation and enter some surrounding text, then
maximize the window. I successfully add to the URL, then unmaximize.

 * I paste the above partial URL and type some trailing text (beginning
with a space). I delete the space.

Curiously, however, adding text to any other part of the URL is not a
problem ''until'' the URL is finally complete. I pasted
 http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=IzNjg2YzZjNThlYzk2YmE5ZjA1YjRlNTc4YmM=
into the message field and encountered no problems. Then, one character
at a time, I entered the missing Nzk4MT and only lost control of the
 application after entering the T.
