 It came about because a previous version of Pidgin failed to transmit
 and/or receive messages between Pidgin and iChat clients.  iChat users
 could happily chat away and pidgin users could but it would fail on some
 occasions to transmit messages between PC and Mac.

 This seems to have been fixed in subsequent releases.

 If it is a problem I am happy for this to be CLOSED as users are not
 encountering this problem anymore.
