 I am getting the exact error as sremick when trying to use ssl with irc.

 I think the reason is that the irc server changes the cert or changes the
 machine which has a different cert and pidgin is comparing it to the
 cached one and not asking to accept the new certificate (Or to view it and
 then accept it)
