attempt to connect to AIM is made

 When I try to connect onto my AIM account, Pidgin gives me an error
 message reading, "Could not connect to authentication server: Unknown
 Error".
 And, when I try to connect to my Google Talk account, I get an error
 message reading, "Could not establish a connection with the server:
 Unknown Error".
 But Pidgin connects to my MSN account with no issues whatsoever.
 This has been happening for the last couple of days and I have tried
 uninstalling/re-installing Pidgin numerous times. Can anyone help me?
