#4843: Problems setting image in Pidgin 2.3.1

I had been searching for info on how to set an image in pidgin and found
the thread for a closed (resolved) ticket. From that thread I was able to
find (for the first time) what the image requirements were for XMPP.
I had attempted to set my own icon. Using Paint.Net I did image reduction
and size adjustments but could not get Pidgin to accept any of my .jpg
images.
In the thread it stated that the image had to be no bigger than 96 x 96
pixels and a size no larger than 8K. I had a jpg image that was 45 x 45,
had a size of 7.9 and Pidgin continued to report that the image was too
big.
I then found at the bottom of the thread that Pidgin converts the image to
PNG and THEN sees if the image is too big. Hmmmmm...I thought...let's
convert the image to PNG. I found that a straight conversion to PNG left
me with an image that was 19K. So now I could finally take steps to
finally resize my image -- shrunk it until I got a size of 7K in PNG and
was able to save it.
I am writing this as a defect because it should not require this much
research and trial-and-error to get an image to be accepted by Pidgin.
This can easily be avoided simply by change the error message to read:
"Sorry, the image cannot be used by XMPP. It must be less than 8K in size
when stored as a PNG file."
A simple rewording can make the work of a user that much easier!!!
