Comment:

 If I have auto-join enabled for an XMPP chat, then start Pidgin, it
 doesn't open up...

 If I then select "Join" for that chat... NOTHING happens (including in the
 debug log window) as if I had clicked elsewhere...

 Turning off auto-join, then restarting Pidgin and all works fine.
