Comment (by featurerequestor):
Richard, yeah having all buddies shown in an expanded contact would be
good, but still not as good as the full suggestion.
It means that to see if I've added a buddy for that contact I have to take
the extra step of expanding the contact. (not a huge deal, but still not
as convenient)
Also, your argument about 10+ buddies applies to the "Send to" menu. You
probably don't want all those old buddies polluting that menu.
So if we're going to remove "clutter" from there, then maybe we only show
buddies that are online or that have offline messaging capabilities. And
if we're going to do that then why not do it for the tooltip as well?
(note: I don't like this option since I want to see all buddies)
But I think the ultimate option is to implement as per my last message and
in your case with the 10+ buddies, use the "show/hide when offline" buddy
functionality to hide the buddies that you don't want to see in the list
all the time.
As an additional note, that functionality adds a 'show_offline' setting to
blist.xml, and when you hide it toggle the value to 0. In its current
implementation it should probably remove the setting instead of setting it
to 0. However, if my suggestion were to be implemented it would be nice
if the the context menu was changed to "When offline" with 3 sub-options:
show, hide and default. Show sets the bool to 1, hide sets the bool to 0
and default removes the setting so that the "Show offline buddies" menu
item is respected.
Also if that were implemented it would be nice if the sendto menu followed
the same rules.
Thanks for putting your developer eyes to this ticket Richard and
CrazyTerabyte for your input!
