 Yes, I checked Help>About, it said "Pidgin 2.3.1".

 I just did it all over again.  This time I added the contacts in Pidgin
 (having tried adding them in AIM and then in Trillian).  I left them the
 way they were for over an hour, signed off, and immediately signed back on
 again.  The contacts are in all the wrong groups, groups that I had
 deleted are back, many of my aliases are missing, some of the single
 contacts with merged screen names are now displaying each SN as an
 individual contact (the merge was broken)... it's really just beyond
 screwed up, and I don't know how to fix it.  Do you have any idea why this
 is happening?  I am just not having this "contacts rearranging themselves"
 problem with Trillian...
