 This has bugged me a couple of times. If I need to look at a log of a
 buddy, the "View User Log" menu command is inappropriate since I need to
 know the users' handle (e.g. I can't search for an ICQ-buddy's alias but
 would have to search for its ICQ-#). Either way, a menu entry with a popup
 window is too intrusive anyway.

 Pidgin already supports searching the buddy list and I regularly use that
 feature. But since it doesn't search hidden buddies (75% of my buddies are
 offline and thus hidden) it's often not that useful since I have to make
 an extra trip to the "Show > Offline Buddies" menu command.

 If the search would also find hidden offline buddies, that would make it a
 lot more useful. If no online buddy matches the search, offline buddies
 would be searched. If an offline buddy matches, that buddy would be
 unhidden and selected. As soon as it's unselected, the buddy would be
 hidden again.
 This would be the ideal shortcut to many buddy related functions like log
 viewing, offline messaging and buddy info - all functions I use on a
 regular basis.
