 Inkscape displays the same problem. The window redraws, minimises,
 maximises, the cursor adapts to whatever it's over, but clicks, key
 presses and mouse-over events are ignored and the program has to be
 terminated.

 The trigger for Inkscape is to close the window when it's minimised and
 needs to prompt you to save your work. Right-click, close on the taskbar
 button is one way, as is typing "kill inkscape" using the MS kill tool.
 The "Save?" alert dialog does not appear, and the program becomes stuck.
 You can bring the window back up, but it ignores all GTK+-specific events.

 I don't know how this overlaps Pidgin's case, but the bug is there, and
 it's either a GTK+ bug or a common misunderstanding of GTK+.
