 I use the Windows XP Pro VPN connection to access a client network.
 Default gateway is not set on that network - Pidgin connects to my many
 accounts fine, and stays connected when I make the VPN connection. New
 conversations and all existing connections are going through my internet
 connection, not through the VPN IP.

 However, when I disconnect the VPN, Pidgin freezes. All windows lock up,
 no screen updates, and I must terminate the process and re-run it again.
