 Simple XMPP messages, e.g. send Miranda or by Pidgins XMPP console, are
 not displayed in the message window.

 example:
 <message to='JohnDoe at example.com' id='foo42'
 type='chat'><body>testchat</body></message>

 But they shown in the debug window. Pidgin 2.0.0 show this type of
 message. May be this is the same issue like for ticket #3973.

 I attached a patch for Pidgin 2.3.1
