 We maintain backwards compatibility with all gtk+ 2.x versions.
 GtkStatusIcon was added in 2.10, so we can't ditch the X11 implementation
 entirely. However, it would be reasonable to use GtkStatusIcon  on all
 platforms when built with gtk+ 2.10, patch for that welcome as well. :-)
