 I ''did'' investigate the only concrete example given, and it was a non-
 bug.  It looks to me like you found the same thing in [comment:9 this
 comment].  The thing is, we either need to pin down an actual bug which
 can be fixed, or close this as spurious -- keeping it open forever to
 document that there are buggy IRC servers out there is not useful.
