 They do not show up in the official AIM program.  Only in Trillian.

 I added the missing contacts one by one in Pidgin, and the next time I
 loaded the program, they were gone.  What was especially weird is that, in
 Pidgin, when trying to add them, I got a "cannot add this contact"-esque
 error message about one (and only one) of them.

 Is there some kind of diagnostic I can try?  I strongly prefer Pidgin and
 would like to become a user, but currently cannot, for fear all my
 contacts will be deleted.  I have now made a list of them as backup, but
 adding them all would be a real pain.  Please help, thanks.
