 Ok. got it working from this link

 I went to control panel, opened add remove programs, and then in that "Set
 program access and defaults". in that selected firefox and now its working
 for me. now if i click a link in the IM window, its opening in firefox..
 thanks a lot for your inputs and your support.. You helped me solve this
 within 10 mins..
