#6368: Pidgin crashes randomly (segfault) while starting XMPP file transfer

I'm using Pidgin 2.4.1 that comes with Ubuntu 8.04. So there are seems to
be no debugging symbols, sorry for that.

I tried to start a file transfer between two Ubuntu 8.04 machines, sender
is 32bit, receiver 64bit, both x86. (does this matter?)
Both are in the same private network behind a NAT-firewall. Both are
logged in at jabber.org. If the transfer starts, it runs at full local
network speed, so no external connection seems to be used. Even if I
delete it at my account settings, proxy.jabber.org:7777 gets added as the
XMPP file transfer proxy, but this host seems to be down at the moment.

The sending Pidgin segfaults after the receiver starts the file transfer
by selecting a destination directory. It does not segfault everytime,
nearly every other file transfer runs fine. If I start pidgin in gdb I
cannot reproduce the crash, every file transfer I started was fine...
 maybe by chance!?

I started "pidgin -d" and analysed the core dump, see attachment.

there's also an attachment "bt full" in "gdb pidgin core.11010" but I
think the backtrace is not useable, right? but nevertheless, I think its
better to post this than to do nothing...
