I filed this earlier to AdiumX's trac system, but someone told me that the
following would require pidgin to support it, so I repost it here:

I am using AdiumX 1.2.5 on Mac OS X 10.4.11.

When chatting over icq with someone who had a very unstable internet
connection, several messages did not arrive at the recipient. Messages
were lost in both directions and nobody got a notice that messages had
been lost. I understand that this might simply be the default behaviour
for such bad luck situations, but I know that an instant messenger could
 do this better.

Some time ago I used miranda as an instant messenger and it had an option
(at least for icq) to "send messages slower but with full acknowledgment".
It was indeed slower, but when a message got lost, a dialog popped up, the
user was notified and the message could be send again.

This message loss protection would be IMHO very useful for any user.

 Answer from a Developer:
"This requires support from libpurple's ICQ implementation to handle
message receipts. Please file a ticket with Pidgin"

I would really love to see this feature as being built in, as a reliable
message exchange is the heart of instant messaging.
