 I mean I completely uninstalled ultramon, and also experienced the problem
 without ultramon ever being installed on a fresh install.  And as to sim-
 on, I found out a few hours ago that these bugs are complete duplicates --
 although I note that 3984 is appearing on winXP and this is also on vista
 (5746).  I also note that the person who reported 3984 does not mention
 ever running ultramon.
