Comment:

 Presumably you also have Pidgin set to auto-identify.

 This is a race which we can't do anything about, without Pidgin
 understanding the identification process on various IRC networks.  Once
 Pidgin perceives that the login process is complete, it starts joining
 channels; however, if you have to use an IRC helper plugin to identify, it
 will not be identified by this point.  Even on networks such as freenode,
 where Pidgin can identify by way of the regular IRC password, this will
 tend to happen because it takes the network much longer to identify you
 than sign you in.

 As the mechanisms for identifying to services on the various networks are
 all nonstandard and vary widely, I don't foresee us doing anything about
 this.
