 galexander: pidgin does not support XEP-0048 which is what the openfire
 forum link you posted is talking about, which is why pidgin doesn't
 respond when the server is configured to have an XEP-0048 bookmark for a
 person who uses pidgin. That is unrelated to this ticket.

 You can file a ticket requesting that pidgin support XEP-0048, which would
 make pidgin autojoin bookmarked chat rooms when configured that way.
