 I have a similar problem using pidgin 4.2.3 under Linux (Ubuntu).

 I'm using a laptop and use the suspend-to-ram function often.
 Suspend to RAM works fine, but if I end the standby and got back to
 work any program works find, except pidgin.

 Pidgin hangs (hard) and I have to kill it.
 Mysteriously I cannot restart it instantly, I have to wait some time
 before I can use it again...

 Please ask, if you need some more data (like an strace/ltrace)...
