 Pidgin actually knows /quote and /stats but not /raw and /who, but /stats
 seems not to be implemented in IRC.

 That's what Pidgin is actually doing although its behavior in case of
 unknown commands seems to be protocol-specific. On IRC, I get errors if a
 command is unknown, but on other protocols the commands are really sent as
 messages.
