 The problem is that (except when under Windows) applications shouldn't be
 doing this themselves. So copying that 'feature' from other applications
 is in fact a bad idea, because it means that every application needs to
 duplicate the exact same code as opposed to the window manager, desktop
 environment, or external tool doing it once and having it work for *every*
 application. I think you'll agree that people generally run far more
 different applications daily then they run different wm/de/external tools
 daily, and that the number of applications of all sorts vastly outnumbers
 the number of wms/des/external tools.
