Comment:

 I am using Pidgin on Windows also; actually I could have been more
 specific in the original report:  I was looking for a folder name that
 starts with an underscore.  I haven't had a chance to be on that machine
 since Friday, so I don't know whether the ignores-underscore sorting might
 be what is happening.  It sure wasn't the behavior dave1g reports for
 files; I was expecting and looking for underscore to sort either before or
 after alphanumeric characters (I only have alphabetic characters for the
 other folder names in the folder where I was looking, so the sort order of
 underscore relative to digits wouldn't have come into play).
