Comment (by chemistrydioxide):

 1) maybe it's possible to ignore incoming fonts and display all text using
 the same font

 2) If a font is missing or lacking a particular character (or a whole
 script), GTK should switch to another font instead of showing rubbish.
 Does GTK support this and leave it to us whether we want to use such a
 feature or does it not support this?

 Please change component to Pidgin (GTK)
