 I have the same issue on x32 and x64 Win XP Pro SP2, Pidgin 2.4.2.

 It seems to happen more often if I was logged in, then go to another
 computer, launch pidgin there which logs me out of my account on the first
 box. When I come back to the first box and re-enable the logged out
 accounts, I am idle.
